Stamford day care center owner charged in infant's death

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - The owner of a Stamford day care center has been charged in connection with the death of a 2-month-old girl last month who was left in her care.

Thirty-four-year-old Nydia Carrillo-Maldonado was charged Monday with first-degree manslaughter and risk of injury to a minor in the July 12 death of Bella Redondo.

Redondo was rushed to the hospital from Little Bears Daycare after she stopped breathing. Police say Redondo was pronounced dead at the hospital after attempts to resuscitate her failed.

The medical examiner classified Redondo's death as a homicide after finding that she died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Carrillo-Maldonado's attorney says his client has a "long and personal relationship" with the Redondo family and she didn't harm the baby.
