Search suspended for mother, son missing on boat for 6 days

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for two boaters missing for six days after they left a Rhode Island marina to go on a fishing trip.

The Coast Guard said on Friday afternoon it had exhausted all efforts its search for 54-year-old Linda Carman and her 22-year-old son, Nathan of Middletown, Connecticut.

The Carmans left Ram's Point Marina in Point Judith, Rhode Island, Saturday evening in a 31-foot aluminum fishing boat named the Chicken Pox.

The Coast Guard received a report around 6:30 p.m. Sunday that the two had never returned.

The Coast Guard says it searched from around Block Island off Rhode Island's coast, to canyons off New York, an area of more than 62,000 square nautical miles, larger than the state of Georgia.
