Peruvian sentenced to 10 years in murder-for-hire plot

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A 30-year-old Peruvian man who had been living in Stamford has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for orchestrating a failed murder-for-hire plot.

Prosecutors say Larry Talledo-Torrejon tried to have the owner of a Stamford restaurant killed in 2015 after agreeing to purchase the business in part with checks drawn on bank accounts with insufficient funds.

According to court documents, Tallego-Torrijon wanted a man to follow the restaurant owner home to New York and kill him, but only after he forced the owner to sign documents showing the sale had been accepted.

The would-be killer instead contacted law enforcement.

Tallego-Torrijon was arrested on December 8, 2015 and pleaded guilty to the federal charge in June.

He also was ordered Friday to pay a $150,000 fine.
