Police: Waterbury man faces gun, drug charges after search

WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) A Waterbury man is facing drug and weapons charges after police say he unlawfully had assault rifles, handguns and silencers, as well as cocaine and heroin.

The Republican-American reports 32-year-old John Grandpre has been jailed on $750,000 bond following a search of his home on Monday.

Grandpre was convicted of assault in 2012 and police say he isn't allowed to have firearms.

Police say they found eight silencers, two assault rifles, several handguns and numerous high capacity magazines in his garage.

They say they found another gun in Grandpre's car, along with a small amount of crack cocaine, 20 bags of heroin, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia.

It wasn't immediately known if Grandpre has an attorney.
