State investigating after teen in foster care fatally struck

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) Two state agencies are investigating the death of a teenager struck by two cars in Naugatuck last week after exiting a car driven by his foster mother.

Fourteen-year-old Michael Shore was hit by a northbound vehicle and a southbound vehicle on state Route 8 on Dec. 22. He died at the scene.

The Hartford Courant reports the Child Advocate's Office and the Department of Children and Families are investigating.

Officials say preliminary information indicates the boy may have been angry or upset when he exited the car.

They say the Southington boy had been a ward of the state, living in a therapeutic foster home. His foster parents were trained to offer a higher level of care.

The state Child Fatality Review Board could order a deeper investigation.
