Cops: Conn. man tried to burn booze-soaked woman

VERNON, Conn. (AP) Police in eastern Connecticut arrested a man after they say he doused a woman with an almond liqueur and unsuccessfully tried to light her on fire in front of several children.

Vernon police responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment at about 3:30 a.m. Friday and found the woman soaked in the liqueur. She told officers that 32-year-old Ramon Gomez doused her with amaretto before attempting multiple times to set her on fire with a lighter.

Police say several children also were splashed with the liqueur. They and the woman escaped unharmed.

Gomez was arrested at his Manchester home on charges including attempted assault.

Gomez is detained on $100,000 bail pending arraignment Friday in Rockville Superior Court. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.
