As Memorial Day approaches, fire officials in Connecticut are reminding residents to use caution while grilling outdoors. The National Fire Protection Association says grilling fires increase sharply during the warmer months, with July seeing the highest number of incidents nationwide. The group says gas grills are involved in most home grilling fires, and nearly 20 percent are linked to grills that were not properly cleaned. Safety experts recommend keeping grills away from homes and decks, checking propane tanks for leaks, and never leaving a grill unattended while cooking.
